Volleyball Drops Non-Conference Match

OAKLAND CITY, Ind. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College volleyball team dropped a non-conference match on Tuesday evening, fall to Oakland City University in straight sets.  The Panthers move to 5-11 on the season while the Mighty Oaks improve to 7-7.

Kentucky Wesleyan took a 3-1 lead to start the match after a pair of kills from Julia Moran and Audrey Baysinger.  The Mighty Oaks took their first lead of the match after a 5-2 run.  The Panthers found back to tie it at eight with a kill from Gabrielle Gallois with an assist from Lydia Jackson.  Oakland City scored five straight points to regain the lead.  Facing a 23-18 deficit, the Panthers tallied four straight points to make it a two-point set with Gallois and Moran each recording a kill.  The Mighty Oaks scored the next two points to take the first set 25-22.

The second set was tightly contested with the Panthers holding an 8-6 lead after kills from Audrey Baysinger and Sierra Morrow.  Oakland City took control of the set with a 15-2 run to take a commanding 21-10 lead.  Kentucky Wesleyan rattled off seven points to make it a four-point set.  Jaylen McEwen tallied two kills during the run while Moran recorded one.  The two teams traded points to close out the set, with Oakland City ultimately taking the set 25-20.

The Mighty Oaks jumped out to a 7-3 in the third set and held a steady three-point lead until the Panthers tied it at 12 with kills from Autumn Harris and McEwen.  Oakland City kept a consistent two-point lead to take the set 25-22.

McEwen led the Panthers with 10 kills while contributing two blocks and nine digs.  Morrow tallied eight kills followed by Moran with six.  Danielle Brouillette led Kentucky Wesleyan with three blocks.  Courtney Gildea led the way with 22 assists.

The Panthers will return to action this weekend with a pair of Great Midwest Athletic Conference matches.  Kentucky Wesleyan will head to Ohio Dominican on Friday followed by Cedarville on Saturday.
