Brown Blanks Trojans in G-MAC Split

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Maci Brown pitcher her second complete game shutout of the season, leading the Kentucky Wesleyan College softball team past Trevecca Nazarene, 3-0.  The Panthers fell in walk-off fashion in game two of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference series.  With the split, Kentucky Wesleyan moves to 21-15 overall and 6-4 in conference play.

Game One: Kentucky Wesleyan 3 – Trevecca Nazarene 0
Maci Brown was lights out in her second complete game shutout of the season.  The sophomore struck out four and held the Trojans scoreless with only three hits and two walks.  Trevecca only had one runner reach second base in the fourth inning.

The Panthers wasted no time getting on the board, scoring one run in the top of the first.  Meredith Daunhauer led off the game with a single and scored on a single to left field from Lexie Mullen.

Daunhauer showed off her speed again in the third, reaching on an infield single stealing third, and scoring on a single to centerfield from Jaylin Tidwell.

Kentucky Wesleyan tabbed its final run in the fourth inning with Jamie Tempel driving in Mallory Nease.

Daunhauer led the Panthers with two runs scored after going two-for-four at the plate.  Tidwell, Mullen, Nease, Tempel, Courtney Lockwood and Jaclyn Parker each recorded one it.

Game Two: Kentucky Wesleyan 9 – Trevecca Nazarene 10
The Panthers held a 2-1 lead after the second inning with Parker tabbing a one-run single and Dawson recording an RBI groundout.  Trevecca responded with three runs off of three hits in the bottom of the third to knot the game

Nease put Kentucky Wesleyan ahead by three with a two-run home run in the top of the third, her fourth home run of the season.  The Trojans responded with three runs off of three hits in the bottom of the inning to knot the game at four.

Dawson helped the Panthers regain the lead in the top of the fourth, driving in Parker with a double to left field fence.  Three batters later, Mullen smashed her team-leading sixth home run of the season to give Kentucky Wesleyan a four-run lead.

Trevecca tabbed three runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to make it a tie game with two innings left.

Facing two outs and one runner in scoring position, Nease knocked a singled to right field to bring home Tidwell and put the Panthers ahead by one.

The Trojans loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the sixth but Brown came in and worked out of the jam with a pop up and ground out to end the inning.  In the bottom of the seventh Trevecca put two runners on with no outs and scored the winning run on a single to center field.

Brown suffered her sixth loss of the season, pitching the final 1.1 innings and allowing two runs off of three hits.  Autumn Grady earned the start, pitching 2.1 innings and giving up six hits and four runs.  Casey Smith pitched 2.2 innings, striking out two and allowing four runs.  Jessica Carmon pitched 0.1 innings, allowing one hit and giving up two walks.

Nease finished a perfect three-for-three at the plate in game two with two runs scored and three runs driven in.  Daunhauer and Tidwell tabbed two hits while Dawson, Lockwood, Mullen, Tempel and Parker recorded one a piece. 

The Panthers will be back in action on Sunday as they head to Pepper Pike, Ohio for a four game series against Ursuline.  The two teams will play a doubleheader at 11 am CT on Sunday and 2 pm CT on Monday.
