Panthers Drop Road G-MAC Game at Ursuline

PEPPER PIKE, Ohio – The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's basketball team fell on the road Saturday afternoon, suffering an 89-65 loss to Great Midwest Athletic Conference foe Ursuline.
 
The Panthers drop to 14-6 overall, and 4-5 in G-MAC play while the Arrows improve to 17-5 overall, and remain unbeaten in league play at 9-0.
 
Ursuline quickly took a six-point lead but Sydney Morabito pulled the Panthers within four after fighting hard for a rebound and scoring on a second-chance lay-up.  A three-point shot from Brittany Wells and a lay up from Shayla Wright in the closing seconds of the first quarter pulled Kentucky Wesleyan within two after the first frame.
 
Bria Wright executed a three-point play to open the second quarter after being fouled on a jumper in the paint.  The three point play cut the deficit to one-point, the closest the Panthers would get to the Arrows.  Ursuline shot 41.0% and outscored the Panthers 24-9 to take a 47-28 lead to the break.
 
Wells and Jasmine Shelt led the way for Kentucky Wesleyan in the second half, both shooting three-for-five from field goal range.  Midway through the third quarter, Wells forced a turnover and scored on the fast break.
 
The Panthers forced 10 turnovers in the second half alone, scoring 16 points off them.  Kentucky Wesleyan's bench outscored the Arrows' 36-12 on the day.
 
Kentucky Wesleyan shot 35.3% from the floor with Wells leading the team with 17 points with a shooting percentage of 50%.  Bria Wright shot a perfect five-for-five on free throws, tabbing 13 points on the day and grabbing six rebounds.  Shayla Wright led the Panthers with four steals while dishing out three assists and scoring five points.
 
Keelie Lamb also handed out four assists on the day, while scoring six points herself and grabbing six boards, four of which were defensive.  Erin Dorn and Codie Drake each finished with five points.
 
The women will remain on the road next week as they head to West Virginia for a pair of G-MAC game.  The Panthers will take on Alderson Broaddus at 4:15 pm CT on Thursday, followed by Davis & Elkins at 1 pm CT on Saturday.
