Box Score AMERICUS, Ga. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College baseball team scored five runs in the second inning, but it wasn't enough as the Panthers fell to West Alabama 16-7 on Sunday morning. The Panthers drop to 1-2 on the season.
The Tigers were quick to take a 4-0 lead, scoring a pair of runs in the first two frames. Kentucky Wesleyan answered back with five runs in the bottom of the second to take a 5-4 lead.
Two consecutive batters were hit by a pitch and Seth Campbell singled through the left side to load the bases with no outs. Levi Tanner drove in two runs after reaching on an error by the second basemen, putting runners on second and third. Cody Bridges drove in Campbell with a single to left field and stole second to put two runners in scoring position with no outs. Josh Galvan hit a single to left field to score both runners and complete the five run, three hit inning.
Kentucky Wesleyan added onto its lead in the bottom of the third when Andrew Kirkland dashed home on a wild pitch.
West Alabama tacked on three runs in the top of the fourth to regain a one run lead. The Tigers had one runner in scoring position with one out, but Spencer Jackson picked him off to end the threat.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Panthers scored one run to knot the game at seven. Adam Brown grounded into a double play, but Nathan Stemle was able to score from third base.
The Tigers scored one run each in the fifth and sixth innings, and three more in the seventh to take the 12-7 win. Kentucky Wesleyan had two runners reach scoring position in the final three innings but were unable to bring them home.
Campbell finished three-for-three at the plate with one run scored and one stolen base. Stemle and Galvan each went two-for-four while Kirkland was one-for-two with two runs scored.
The Panthers head to Millington, Tenn. next week for a set of four games facing Tiffin on Friday, a doubleheader against Quincy on Saturday, and a single game against Saint Joseph's on Sunday.
