Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Ken Badylak, Athletic Communications

Panthers Win Third Straight and Five of Last Six

CEDARVILLE, Ohio – Cedarville University were winners of six straight games this season, but all that came to end on Saturday as the Kentucky Wesleyan College men's basketball team won its third straight after a 75-71 win at Callan Athletic Center. Four players reached double figures as Daniel Dzierzawski finished with 18. The Panthers have also won five of their last six games.

The Panthers (6-5, 3-1 G-MAC) utilized their height advantage in the early moments as Evan Milligan and Amir Warnock were getting high percentage attempts. Milligan had eight early points as Wesleyan built a 20-11 lead over the Yellowjackets (6-3, 1-1 G-MAC).

The Yellowjackets battled back, taking advantage of the Panthers' post players being in foul trouble. The final eight minutes of the first half turned into a back-and-forth battle as Cedarville went into the locker-room with a 31-30 lead.

The second half followed under the same model when Robert Okoro gave the Jackets a 47-42 lead after a made lay-up with 13 minutes left in the contest. The Panthers flexed their muscle in the final 10 minutes as Rasheide Bell connected on four three-point baskets down the stretch. Bell's three with nine minutes left returned a two-point edge to the Panthers (57-55).

Amir Warnock got routine touches in the paint as helped extend the Wesleyan lead to 65-59. Bell gave the Panthers a nine point lead at the four minute mark with another three-point bucket. The lead continued to sit at nine points (73-64) with 70 seconds left in the game. However, the Yellowjackets got to the foul line and took advantage of the Panthers' misses from the free-throw line to make it a one possession game with 20 seconds left.

The Jackets' Joey Morlan is always a threat from the perimeter, but his game-tying three-point attempt rattled in-and-out. Malek Harris grabbed the rebounded and put the game away from the charity stripe.

Dzierzawski collected three rebounds to go along with 18 points. Bell scored 13 of his 17 points in the second half. He also recorded four assists. Milligan finished with 14 points while Warnock added 10. Harris pulled-in nine rebounds.

The Panthers will host Bluefield State College on Wednesday. Tip-off at the Owensboro Sportscenter is scheduled for 7 PM CT.
