Panthers Shooting Topples Trojans

OWENSBORO, KY. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's basketball team took down Trevecca Nazarene University on Saturday 72-63. The Trojans had no answer for the Panthers ability to share the ball throughout the Great Midwest Athletic Conference contest.

Wesleyan (5-4, 1-4 G-MAC) took a 15-12 lead after the opening quarter and it was clear the Trojans' plan to remain within striking distance was to get to the foul line. However, TNU made eight of 14 free-throws in the opening half as the Panthers found separation in the second quarter.

A three-point bucket by Briana Bryant brought the Trojans to 17-15 at the start of the second, but over the next five minutes of the period, the Panthers embarked on an 11-1 run. The rally started with a basket from Jenna Martin, but ended with nine straight points from Keelie Lamb.

Lamb also recorded the last basket of the half, a three, to allow the Panthers to take a 35-23 lead. A second half blitz to start to start the third quarter caused the Trojans to take timeout. Martin and Kaylee Clifford connected on back-to-back threes to start. The run finished at 12-2 and allowed the Panthers their largest lead of the game, 47-22.

Trevecca chipped their deficit down to 13 points, but the Panthers closed out the third with a 54-37 lead. The Panthers maintained a comfortable double-digit lead through most of the fourth quarter, but the Trojans pulled within single digits (69-61) with a minute left in the contest. Wesleyan closed out the game from the free-throw line.

Jenna Martin played a sparkling offensive game making six of seven shots for 21 points on the day. She also collected three steals.  Lamb added 15 points and five rebounds while Clifford recorded 10 points and five rebounds. Lily Grimes dished out four assists to go along with seven points. In total the Panthers finished with 16 assists on the day.

The Panthers will host Lake Erie College on Tuesday as Great Midwest play continues. Tip-off at the Sportscenter is scheduled for 1 PM.
