FINDLAY, Ohio – Despite suffering a 3-0 loss to the University of Findlay on Friday evening, the Kentucky Wesleyan College volleyball team earned a berth into the 2017 Great Midwest Athletic Conference championship tournament. This marks the fifth straight season that the Panthers have made an appearance in the postseason.
The Panthers fall to 12-17 overall and 7-7 in G-MAC pay while the Oilers improve to 23-4 on the season and 14-1 in the conference.
The first serve for the Panthers proved to be a good one with
Nilah Roy tabbing a kill to put Kentucky Wesleyan ahead 2-0. The Oilers tallied three points to take a 3-2 lead but the Panthers stormed back with five unanswered to take a 7-3 lead capped off with a pair of kills from
Audrey Baysinger. Midway through the set, Findlay went on a five point run of their own but
Gabrielle Gallois put an end to it with a massive kill to make it 16-11 Oilers.
A back-and-forth second half of the set didn't see either team score two straight points until the Panthers tallied two with a kill from Roy to make it 22-17. Kentucky Wesleyan fought off set point three times thanks to a trio of kills from Gallois, Roy and
Danielle Brouillette but the Oilers took the first set 25-21.
Findlay stayed consistent in the second set, jumping out to a 10-4 lead that was halted with a kill from Gallois. Kills from
Sierra Morrow and Brouillette pulled the Panthers within five at 13-8 but the Oilers went on to take the set 25-13.
The Oilers opened the final set with a six point run but the Panthers strung together a pair of points with two Findlay attacking errors. The Panthers kept within five with a kill from Roy with
Lydia Jackson dishing out the assist. Findlay went on to take the set 25-13 to take the match 3-0.
Roy led the Panthers with seven kills followed by Gallois with six and Baysinger with five. Roy tabbed the lone aces for Kentucky Wesleyan and was tied with Baysinger and Gallois with one block. Jackson led the way with 10 assists followed by
Courtney Gildea with nine.
The Panthers close out their final road trip of the regular season with a match at Hillsdale on Saturday set for a 4 pm CT start.
