OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College volleyball team posted a decisive 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-22) victory over Ohio Valley University on Friday evening in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference matchup. With the three-set victory, the Panthers improve to 8-12 overall and 4-5 in the G-MAC while the Fighting Scots fall to 6-12 overall and 2-8 in conference play.
Facing a 12-9 deficit in the first set, the Panthers rattled off five points to take a 14-12 lead with a kill from
Danielle Brouillette and a service ace from
Nilah Roy. With the score tied at 18, the Scots jumped out to a 21-19 lead but the Panthers scored six straight points with four kills to take the first set 25-21.
Kentucky Wesleyan wasted no time in the second set, taking a 3-1 lead capped off with a kill from
Jaylen McEwen. The Fighting Scots responded with five straight points to take a 7-4 lead but the Panthers fought back to take an 11-10 lead with a pair of kills from
Sierra Morrow and Roy. Kentucky Wesleyan jumped out to a six-point lead, their largest lead of the set. Four of the Panthers final six points came from kills including two from Gallois and one a piece from McEwen and Brouillette.
Roy opened the third set with four straight service aces to help the Panthers take a commanding 5-0 lead. Ohio Valley battled back to tie the set at 13 but Kentucky Wesleyan pulled away with a 5-1 run to take a 18-14 lead with a service ace from Brouillette and
Audrey Baysinger. The Panthers held a 24-19 but the Fighting Scots fought off match point three times to make it 24-22. Kentucky Wesleyan dug in and closed out the set, and match with a kill from McEwen.
Brouillette led the Panthers with nine kills and also tabbed two blocks. Roy led all players with five service aces and 15 digs.
Lydia Jackson tabbed 32 assists.
The Panthers closed out their three-game road trip on Saturday, taking on Alderson Broaddus at 10 am CT.
