PHILIPPI, WV. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College volleyball team polished off a successful road trip through West Virginia on Saturday with a 3-1 win over Alderson Broaddus University. The Panthers produced one of their best offensive performances of the season, hitting .225 for the match while three players reached double figures in kills.
The Panthers (9-12, 5-5 G_MAC) came out strong, holding an attacking percentage of .344 in the first game. With the opening set tied at 11, Wesleyan won 14 of the next 19 points, including a stretch where they won nine of 10.
After winning the opener 25-16, the Panthers took command of the second frame early. After
Audrey Baysinger's kill the Panthers led 13-6. From there Wesleyan exchanged points to the finish going on top 2-0 after a 25-19 win.
Three and four-point rallies in the third frame were matched by both teams. The Battlers (6-14, 1-8 G_MAC) trailed 24-20 late in the third set, but rattled-off five straight points to take the lead and avoid the sweep. AB eventually won the third set 31-29.
The Battlers won the first three points of the fourth set, but the Panthers struck back with 12 of 14 to take a commanding lead and erase any thoughts of a fifth set. Both
Danielle Brouillette and Jaylen Mcewen converted three kills apiece in the run. A late run by AB went for not as Wesleyan finished off the match and a 2-1 road trip with a 25-21 win of the fourth set.
Mcewen finished with 17 kills to lead the Panthers while Brouillette added 14 kills.
Sierra Morrow recorded 11 kills.
Lydia Jackson set-up the high-powered offense with 54 assists.
Nilah Roy led Wesleyan defensively with 16 digs.
The Panthers will travel to Aurora, Illinois next weekend to compete in the largest volleyball tournament in the nation, the Crossover, presented by Mizuno. Competition begins on Friday and continues through Saturday.
