FINDLAY, Ohio – The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's soccer team was edged 2-1 against Great Midwest Athletic Conference newcomer University of Findlay on Saturday afternoon. With one regular season game remaining, the Panthers currently sit in seventh place in the conference with the top eight teams earning a spot in the postseason tournament.
Kentucky Wesleyan moves to 5-8-1 overall and 5-7-1 in conference play while the Oilers improve to 5-11-1 overall and 4-8-1 in the G-MAC.
Findlay jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute, taking advantage of a corner kick. In the 24th minute, Breigh Haase took a pass from Madison Haycraft, finding the back of the net and knotting the game at one.
Overtime loomed in the second half with both teams unable to score the game-winner. In the 83rd minute, a shot from Findlay hit the top cross bar, deflected down and was tapped in to give the Oilers a 2-1 lead with less than seven minutes remaining. Kentucky Wesleyan fired off a shot in the closing seconds but were unable to find the back of the net.
Haase and Madisyn Hunt led the Panthers with five shots a piece. Hunt tallied four on goal while Haase recorded three.
Taylor Rentchler tabbed seven saves in the full 90 minutes while allowing two goals.
The Panthers head to Nashville, Tenn. on Tuesday for their regular season finale at Trevecca Nazarene University set to begin at 4:30 pm CT.
