OWENSBORO, KY. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College volleyball team fell 3-0 to Lake Erie College in a cross divisional Great Midwest match-up on Friday evening. The Strom took advantage of a slow start in the second and third sets to build leads large enough to hang-on to a straight set victory.
The Storm (18-7, 8-3 GMAC) held a .182 attacking percentage in the opening set and clawed back from an 8-5 deficit in the frame to even the set at 9-9. An attacking error by LEC late in the frame allowed the Panthers (9-16, 5-6 GMAC) to pull within 20-18, but four straight points blocked the rally from progressing any further.
The Panthers struggled throughout the second set as the Strom took a 2-0 lead after a 25-13 win. In the third Wesleyan held a slight early edge, but LEC won seven of eight points to build a 14-11 lead. The Strom lead sat at 20-13 before the Panthers mounted a comeback.
Nilah Roy started the run with a kill and quickly Wesleyan was to within 22-17.
Roy then held serve for seven straight points as the Panthers won six unanswered to take 23-22 lead.
Jaylen McEwen put-down a kill to help the six-point rally. The Strom found their footing and won the final three points to end the match.
Mcewen finished the match with seven kills.
