Walker-Crawford scores 19, but women's basketball falters to Davis & Elkins, 79-69

OWENSBORO, Ky. – Kentucky Wesleyan fell at home on Thursday to Davis & Elkins 79-69 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play. With the defeat, the Panthers fall for the third consecutive time. Kentucky Wesleyan's overall record on the season is now 11-4, (2-3 G-MAC). Davis & Elkins improves to 12-4, (3-2 G-MAC).

Davis & Elkins led for the near entirety of the contest, as Kentucky Wesleyan's only lead of the game came at 61-59, after Jennifer Walker-Crawford scored down low on the block.

The Senators led 16-14 after the first, and held their largest lead of the evening at 31-19 midway through the second frame. The Panthers used a 16-6 run to close the deficit all the way down to two at 37-35, but D&E scored on a layup right before halftime to hold a four point advantage at the break.

In the third quarter, Kentucky Wesleyan kept pace with the Senators, despite trailing the whole way until KWC made a successful comeback attempt, when they tied the game up at 56-56 after Addie Reimbold drilled a three on the wing. The Panthers ended the third quarter on a 12-4 run.

However, in the fourth quarter, the Panthers had trouble stopping the G-MAC leading scorer Stephanie Wooten.

Wooten scored a total 36 points in the game on 12-27 shooting from the field. Wooten knocked down seven three-point field goals in the contest, and scored 15 points in the fourth quarter.

The Senators out-scored Kentucky Wesleyan 23-13 in the final quarter of play as the Panthers ran out of fire power offensively. D&E shot nearly 50 percent from the field and from three point range in the game. The Senators converted on 14 made three point field goals in the game.

Jennifer Walker-Crawford led Kentucky Wesleyan in scoring with 19 points on Thursday evening. The senior from Warsaw, Ind. shot 7-11 from the field and also knocked down a perfect 4-4 free throw attempts. Walker-Crawford also collected five rebounds and two assists.

Erin Dorn and Sydney Morabito chipped in with eight points. Morabito dished out three assists.

Addie Reimbold, Jasmine Shelt, and Shayla Wright each tallied seven points apiece. Wright also posted five rebounds, while Reimbold and Shelt recorded four and three boards.

Senior Bria Wright led KWC with a team-high seven rebounds and six assists. Wright also totaled four points in the loss.

Kentucky Wesleyan will be back in action on Saturday at home at 1 pm against G-MAC foe Alderson Broaddus as they look to end their current three game skid.
