Women’s basketball snaps three game losing skid with 74-64 victory over Alderson Broaddus

OWENSBORO, Ky. – Kentucky Wesleyan held off Alderson Broaddus 74-64 on Saturday afternoon in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play at the Sportscenter to snap their initial three game losing streak. The Panthers improve to 12-4 overall on the year and more importantly, get back to .500 in G-MAC play with a 3-3 record.

Kentucky Wesleyan led for essentially the entire game. Their only deficit was late in the first quarter at 13-11. KWC led 16-13 after the first.

The Panthers dominated the second quarter, where they out-scored the Battlers 22-11. Kentucky Wesleyan extended their lead out to 25-14 after a mid-range jumper from Jasmine Shelt in a 9-1 run to start the quarter.

Alderson Broaddus sliced the lead down to seven late in the quarter, before another 8-2 run from the Panthers put them ahead by 14 at the break at 38-24.

After an Addie Reimbold jumper, KWC led 50-29 early in the third quarter. AB would go on a 15-2 run to close the lead down to 52-44. Alderson Broaddus' Jordan Parker scored 13 consecutive points for the Battlers in the run.  

Alderson Broaddus would cut the lead down to just four at 61-57 with under five minutes to play. The Panthers would own the final minutes of the contest, as Brittany Wells scored eight points in the final stages to put the game away for good.

KWC shot 41 percent from the floor, and 72 percent from the free throw line on 13-18 attempts. The Panthers out-rebounded AB by a margin of 45-33. Kentucky Wesleyan forced 18 turnovers and scored 45 bench points in the game.

The Panthers also scored 14 points off of turnovers and added 20 second chance points.

Brittany Wells led all scorers with 23 points on 10-15 shooting from the field. Wells reached double figures scoring for the first time in four games on Saturday. Wells also collected five rebounds in the victory.

Jasmine Shelt came off the bench and totaled 12 points on 5-7 shooting. Shelt started the contest on a perfect 4-4 shooting. Shelt also posted seven rebounds.

Addie Reimbold was the third Panther to score in double figures with 10 points and six rebounds.

Sydney Morabito and Keelie Lamb each chipped in with seven points apiece. Seniors Erin Dorn and Bria Wright both finished the game with six and eight rebounds respectively.

Shayla Wright scored six points and dished out a team-high three assists in the win.

The Panthers will be back in action on the road on Wednesday evening at Oakland City. Tip-off is set for 6 pm.
