OWENSBORO, Ky. – The 37 home game winning streak was put to the test on Thursday night, but strong defense in the closing seconds allowed the Kentucky Wesleyan College men's basketball team to come away with a 77-74 win over Auburn-Montgomery for their 11th straight win on the season, and their 38th straight win at home. A back and fourth game saw the lead change 15 times, with no team ever leading by double digits.
Kentucky Wesleyan (12-2) trailed Auburn-Montgomery (4-13) by nine with just under nine minutes remaining in regulation. The Panthers utilized a 7-2 run over the next three minutes to tie the game at 67 with 6:06 left to play.
Jordan Jacks put Kentucky Wesleyan ahead 73-71 at the 3:13 mark after forcing a turnover and scoring a fast-break lay-up with help from Charles Foster. The Warhawks responded with a three-pointer to take a one-point lead with 2:51 remaining. The two teams traded possessions for the next two minutes, but neither team was able to score until Jordan Jacks grabbed a rebound and scored on a lay-up with 35 seconds to go to put the Panthers ahead by one.
Auburn-Montgomery was forced to take on a timeout on their next possession, then took another one as they were unable to inbound the ball. The Warhawks turned the ball over with six seconds remaining as tough Panther defense kept Auburn-Montgomery from getting a shot off. Ken-Jah Bosley was fouled on the inbound play, and sealed the win with a pair of free throws in the closing seconds.
Jacks finished 16 rebounds and 19 points for his fifth double-double of the season. Bosley tabbed 18 points and eight rebounds while dishing out four assists. Malek Harris scored in the double-digits with 11 points. Jacks and Foster led the Panthers with five assists each.
Kentucky Wesleyan scored 42 points in the paint to Auburn-Montgomery's 34. The Panther bench outscored the Warhawks' 17 to 13, while the Warhawks held the advantage in second chance points, 14 to 13.
The Panthers will return to the Owensboro Sportscenter on Saturday as they host Malone in their first home Great Midwest Athletic Conference game of the season with tip off set for 3:15 pm.
