Kentucky Wesleyan dropped its second match of the 2016 season with a 2-0 loss at Bellarmine in non-conference play on Monday evening in Louisville. The Panthers (0-2-0) fell behind in the second half, after Bellarmine scored both of their goals in the half, and KWC was unable to recover.
In the first half, the match was dead even. Both teams found good opportunities on-goal to try and break the score, but came up empty. Nikos Agisilaou, Kaelin Hildreth, Matthew Hickingbotham, Arthur Rogers, Ben Protheroe, and Blake Cobb all took shot attempts for the Panthers in the half. Cobb had an opportunity to put the Panthers on the board in the fourth minute of play, but had his penalty kick shot blocked. Bellarmine out-shot Kentucky Wesleyan 8-6 in the first half.
The first goal of the match came early in the second half, as Bellarmine's Tomas Bernedo tracked down a lead pass, and scored off a shot from the left side of the field that went inside the post. The Knights would extend their lead with a second goal in the 73rd minute of action off a cross right in front of the goal, which led to a one-touch attempt into the net.
Kentucky Wesleyan was unable to solve Bellarmine's defense, and failed to produce a shot in the second half of play.
Goalkeeper Grant Allen registered six saves throughout the contest. Blake Cobb was the lone Panther with a shot on-goal in the match. Six KWC players also played the entirety of the match.
Kentucky Wesleyan play's next contest will be on the road on September 8 at Ohio Valley to open up conference play.
