Kentucky Wesleyan fell victim to an overtime loss last Saturday, but the Panthers were determined to not let it happen again. KWC took down Oakland City 2-1 in double overtime on Wednesday afternoon in Oakland City, Ind. in non-conference play. The Panthers improve to 2-7 overall on the year with the victory.
The Panthers got on the board first in the 17th minute of the contest, after Kaelin Hildreth scored his second goal of the 2016 season. KWC led 1-0 at the break.
Midway through the second half, Oakland City evened the match at 1-1 after a goal scored at the 68:35 mark of the contest. KWC was unable to score again in regulation, and the match went into overtime.
After nobody was able to score in the opening overtime period, the match continued on. In the fourth minute of the second overtime, Arthur Rogers brought home the game-winning goal at the 103:21 mark. Rogers now leads Kentucky Wesleyan with a team-high three goals scored this year.
The Panthers finished the match with 11 shots, six of which were on-goal. Rogers took a team-high six shots, with four shots on-goal in the game.
Goalkeeper Grant Allen registered nine saves, tying his previous season-high this year.
Kentucky Wesleyan will have a couple of days of rest before returning to action. The Panthers will host Trevecca Nazarene at Panther Field on Saturday afternoon. The match is set to begin at 2:30 p.m. CT.
