Women’s soccer falters to UIS in first match

Kentucky Wesleyan (0-1-0) dropped its first match of the season to Illinois-Springfield 5-0 at Strassweg Field in Evansville in non-conference play on Friday evening. Illinois-Springfield scored one goal in the first half, and then added four more scores in the second half to put the game out of reach.

The Prairie Stars struck first in the in the 27th minute off a shot from inside the box. UIS scored their second goal 19 seconds into the second half off a shot from the right wing. The next three goals came in the 62nd, 71st, and 76th minute marks.

The Panthers were only able to muster up three shots in the contest, with two of them being on-goal shots. Ellen Tichenor, Penni Pluimer, and Breigh Haase each took one shot apiece in the match.

Rachel Kingsolving, Taylor Rentchler, and Brittany Johnston all saw action behind the net at goalkeeper. Kingsolving led KWC with three saves. The Panthers' defense faced a total of 26 shots in the match, with 10 shots on-goal.

Kentucky Wesleyan will be back in action at Strassweg Field in Evansville on Sunday afternoon. The Panthers will face off against Southern Indiana at 2 p.m.
