Kentucky Wesleyan took down conference opponent Malone 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at Steele Stadium in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play. The Panthers, who tied Ursuline on Thursday evening, scored in the 85th minute of play to preserve the victory over the Pioneers.
Kelsey Humphries scored the goal, her second of the season. Penni Pluimer registered the assist, with a cross inside the box, as Humphries nailed the header into the back of the net. She has scored both goals for the Panthers this season.
With the win, KWC improves to 2-2-1, (2-0-1 G-MAC) on the season. The Panthers currently sit in second place in the conference standings right behind Ursuline.
Taylor Rentchler tallied seven saves in the match. Rentchler has not given up a goal in two weeks.
As a team, Kentucky Wesleyan recorded five shots, two of which landed on-goal. Breigh Haase had the other shot on-goal in the contest. Kaley Burnette, Skyler Walden, and Erika Hinchcliffe also had a shot a piece in the match.
The Panthers' defense faced 20 shots from Malone, including several in the final minutes of the match. Malone finished with 14 shots in the second half.
Kentucky Wesleyan will return to action on Thursday evening at 8 p.m. against Davis & Elkins. The match will be played at Steele Stadium.
