Men's soccer rolls past Malone in first win of year

Kentucky Wesleyan picked up its first win of the year on Saturday with a 4-1 decision over Malone in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play. The Panthers are now 1-5 (1-2 G-MAC) on the season.

Kentucky Wesleyan first struck early in the first half, as Kaelin Hildreth put the Panthers on the board. Just before halftime, Kurtis Roberts ripped a shot outside the box that bounced off the past and rolled in, to give KWC a 2-0 advantage at halftime.

Things got physical in the second half, but the Panthers continued to find their offense. Brady Blythe scored his first goal of the season in the 65th minute of action. Arthur Rogers provided the assists. Malone would score a goal in the 76th minute, but the Panthers would add one more score to put the match out of reach.

Kurtis Roberts would score his second goal of the contest with under a minute to play, after Matthew Hickingbotham dropped a long pass down the field. Hickingbotham finished the match with two assists. Roberts now leads the Panthers with three goals this season.

Goalkeeper Grant Allen registered four saves in the victory. The Panthers also recorded a team-high 13 shots in the match. Roberts led KWC with a team-high four shots. He and Arthur Rogers also produced two shots-on goal in the contest.

Kentucky Wesleyan will be back in action on Thursday, where they host G-MAC foe Davis & Elkins at Steele Stadium. The match is tabbed for a 5:30 p.m. start.
