Kentucky Wesleyan's men's soccer team (0-1) lost their season opening match to Southern Indiana 3-1 at Steele Stadium on Thursday evening in non-conference play.
The Panthers kept the game tight early on, and saw several opportunities to take the lead. However, KWC fell behind early in the first half, as the Eagles scored off of a shot from the right wing in the 21st minute of play. USI would add another goal later on in the half in the 34th minute as Eric Ramirez scored his second goal of the night off a shot from five yards out.
In the 61st minute of play, Southern Indiana took a commanding 3-0 advantage after Adam Newman scored a goal from a shot deflected off of a KWC player.
Kentucky Wesleyan was able to get on the board late in the second half, as Kurtis Roberts ripped home a goal from the far left wing in the 79th minute. Blake Cobb issued the assist on the play. The Panthers also got a few more good looks on the goal, but were unable to capitalize.
KWC would finish the contest with five total shots on-goal, and eight total shots throughout the game. Â Goalkeeper Grant Allen registered four saves.
The Panthers will be back in action on Monday, as they travel to Louisville to face Bellarmine. The match is set to begin at 5:30 CT.
