Kentucky Wesleyan fell in overtime 6-5 at Trevecca Nazarene in Nashville on Tuesday in the final regular season match of the year. Kentucky Wesleyan fell behind 3-0, before scoring four consecutive goals to take the lead in the wild match. TNU scored the winning goal in overtime. KWC defeated Ohio Valley 2-1 on Saturday to clinch an automatic berth into the G-MAC Championship Tournament. Kentucky Wesleyan ends the 2016 regular season with a record of 3-13, (2-10 G-MAC).
TNU scored the first goal of the match in the tenth minute of play. Less than ten minutes later in the half, Trevecca would score their second goal. The Trojans would take a 3-0 lead with 15 minutes left in the first half.
KWC turned the match around with two critical goals to close out the half. Ben Protheroe ripped home a goal in the 37th minute to get on the board. Arthur Rogers provided the assist on the goal. Kaelin Hildreth scored the second goal for the Panthers just before the half to close the gap at 3-2. Rogers and Kurtis Roberts issued the assist.
In the second half, Kentucky Wesleyan tied things up after Kurtis Roberts scored less than four minutes into the half. The Panthers re-took the lead in the 64th minute after Protheroe crossed it in the box for an open net for Rogers, who scored easily.
TNU would even the match back up at four apiece in the 73rd minute of action. They would re-claim the lead with less than 15 minutes to play.
With less than seven minutes left, Blake Cobb evened up the match to force overtime. Nikos Agisilaou provided the assist on the match-tying score.
In overtime, Trevecca would score on a close goal from inside the box to put the match away late in the first overtime period.
Kentucky Wesleyan will play in the opening round of the G-MAC Championship on Saturday at Cedarville.
