Box Score It was a tough way for the Kentucky Wesleyan women's soccer season to come to a close after losing in a penalty kick session 4-2 to Ursuline on Thursday afternoon in Elkins, WV. The game was tied at 1-1 after regulation, before the Arrows pulled out the victory in penalty kicks. The historic season comes to a close for the Panthers, who set a record for the most wins in a single-season in program-history at 11.
Early in the first half, it was clear that both teams came out ready to play. In the tenth minute of action,
Katlyn Duke took a great shot that just missed and hit the crossbar. Ursuline struck first in the 24
th minute of the match, as Aline Czaplicki scored to give Ursuline the early 1-0 edge. Just before the half in the 40
th minute,
Breigh Haase was able to put one past goalkeeper Helen Jazzar to even the match up at 1-1 at halftime.
Action continued on in the second half, and both teams continued to attack the goal, but were ultimately left empty-handed at the end of the half. Jazzar and
Kathryn Dishion made several critical saves throughout regulation. It was the same result in the overtime periods, as neither team was able to put in the game winning goal.
In the penalty shootout, the Arrows scored on four shots, and that was all that they needed. The Panthers were only able to put two goals past Jazzar. Vanessa Consiglio scored the game winning goal to clinch the Arrows victory at 4-2. Ursuline will play Davis & Elkins on Saturday for the G-MAC final.
