Football previews Alfred State game

Kentucky Wesleyan (2-4) will host Alfred State (0-7) on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Steele Stadium. The Panthers are coming off of a 49-22 homecoming victory against Louisiana College. Keelan Cole set a school-record with 278 receiving yards and 319 all-purpose yards. Coach Brent Holsclaw also became the winningest coach in program-history after Saturday's win.

Coach Brent Holsclaw on Cole and his performance from last Saturday, "Keelan was the game. He put on a show. Based off of our game film, we thought that we would be able to get him into some one-on-one situations and that played out well obviously. We have played teams that double cover him a lot. We always have multiple game plans going into the game."

Holsclaw on the Panthers running game, "David White had a couple of big explosive runs, but got negated due to penalties. I was still pleased with our running game overall. We felt as a coaching staff after the game that we could have had 200 plus rushing yards without the penalties on Saturday. That's something that we have been working on since day one, and we still have got to eliminate offensive penalties."

Dalton Oliver leads the Panthers passing attack with 1,893 passing yards and 19 touchdowns. Cole has brought in 893 receiving yards and a team-high 11 touchdowns. The defense is giving up 26.4 points per game, while Alfred State's defense has allowed 48.6 points per game so far this year.

Holsclaw commented on Alfred State, "They play hard, and if you look at their record, they are struggling in the win column. They do run solid schemes, and I don't think that we will see a lot of single coverage on Keelan. I imagine we will see them double cover him more. We will have to be able to run the ball, and get the ball to our other playmakers. We just have to worry about ourselves, and try and get better and better every single game."
