KWC Gets First Win of the Season

Box Score
Trailing Cumberland (Tenn.) 1-0 at the half, the Kentucky Wesleyan men's soccer team would not be stopped, scoring four second half goals in route to a 4-2 win at Steele Stadium.

"The boys were telling me at halftime that I have a shot," said Kurtis Roberts after the game. "My mom and dad have been telling me that, too.  So, happy days."

Cumberland scored their first goal in the 13th minute and maintained that lead going into halftime.  KWC would begin the assault soon after.

In the 51st minute, Christakis Agisilaou got a cross from Roberts at about 20 yards and outran his defender to score the first goal of the season for the Panthers and tie the game at 1.

"Me and Kurty are usually on the same page with each other and he found me one time and I missed," said Agisilaou after the match.  "I knew I had to get the next one.  He found me again and I had the speed from there and I put it in."

A little over four minutes later, Roberts would score a goal of his own off a pass from Isaiah Hagan and give KWC a 2-1 lead, for the first time this season.
The Panthers would get another chance in the 61st minute.  Roberts took a corner kick from the left side and found the head of Gary McMeekin, who flicked it into the left side of the net for a 3-1 KWC lead.

Cumberland would cut the lead down to one in the 75th minute, but KWC responded and put the game out of reach.

In the 86th minute, Grant Allen, the goalkeeper, sent a long goal kick to the far end of the field that found the foot of Agisilaou, who netted his second goal of the night and brought the score to its final margin of 4-2.

"On the second goal, Coach Duvall told me to just make a run.  I did and the ball found me and I hit it with confidence.  Without my team, I couldn't do any of this," said Agisilaou.

KWC returns to the pitch on Saturday when they travel to Ohio to face Cedarville.
