Box Score A goal in the second minute was all Kentucky Wesleyan needed in route to a dominating 8-0 victory over Midway on Saturday at Panther Field.
The first goal of the match came on a header by
Audrey Taylor on a corner kick at the 1:05 mark in the first half to put KWC up 1-0. The Panthers never looked back from there, adding five more goals in the half, by five different players, to go into halftime up 6-0.
"I actually had just checked in," said
Penni Pluimer, when asked about her goal. "We had a corner and I just ended up being there at the right time."
Lauren Norton, Pluimer,
Anna Duff,
Kelsey Croft and
Taylor Burnett all scored in the first half. It was Norton's third goal, Pluimer's second in as many games and the first of the season for Duff, Croft and Burnett.
The Panthers would score two more times in the second half, first in the 49th minute when
Annie Elder put her third goal of the season in the net on a cross from
Paige Kramer and the second in the 75th minute when
Sydney Morabito scored off a deflection by a Midway player.
In addition to the goals,
Katlyn Duke had two assists and Taylor,
Myia Hernandez,
Keely Ham and Kramer all had assists for KWC.
When asked how they would get ready for Ursuline next Thursday in Ohio, Pluimer replied: "We are looking forward to it because we want to win really bad. We want that (conference championship) ring and it's going to be good competition. We are excited for it."
