KWC comes from behind to defeat Cedarville in overtime 99-95

Kentucky Wesleyan came from behind to defeat Cedarville in overtime, 99-95, in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Semifinals in Nashville on Friday.

The victory marked the second straight 20-win season and the second trip in three seasons to a conference championship game for KWC.

Jordanne Gambill, Karly Rhoads and Kourtney Rhoads all scored 22 points. T'Essence Phelps grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds and added nine points. Shelbi Tyra also had nine points and four assists.

Jade Mills-Harris came off the bench to contribute seven points. Karly Rhoads handed out a game-high six assists.

The first half saw eight lead changes and eight ties. The Panthers recorded their largest lead of the game at 28-24 with 6:35 left in before the Yellow Jackets produced a 43-38 intermission score.

The second half only had four lead changes and three ties. KWC tied CU for the 10th-time at 73-all with 5:23 on the clock. The Yellow Jackets then scored 10-straight points to go ahead at 83-73 with 2:54 left.

KWC whittle-away the deficit to two on a jumper by Kourtney Rhoads at 87-85 with 59 seconds left in regulation. Tyra then stole the ball and Mills-Harris was fouled and made one of two free throws with 22 seconds.

CU's Kayla Jenerette followed by hitting two free throws making it 88-86 with 15 seconds on the clock. Mills-Harris scored a layup with eight seconds to tie the game at 88-88 to send it into overtime.

Cedarville opened the overtime period with a 95-89 lead at the 3:05 mark.

The Panthers (20-8) then closed the final 2:31 minutes in overtime with an 8-0 run with a three-pointer from Phelps, a layup from Gambill, a three-pointer from Kourtney Rhoads and two free throws from Phelps.

Cedarville (18-10) was led by Raegan Ryan with a game-high 34 points.

No. 3 seed KWC (20-8) will play host and No. 1 seed Trevecca Nazarene in the G-MAC Championship game at 2:00 CT, Saturday.
