Karly Rhoads made two game-winning free throws with 2.5 second left as Kentucky Wesleyan squeaked by visiting Ursuline, 77-75, in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play on Thursday night at the Sportscenter.
Shelbi Tyra led KWC with a game-high 21 points,
Jordanne Gambill added 17 and Rhoads had 17.
The Panthers slowly built up to their largest lead in the first half at 20-11 with 7:48 remaining. The Arrows chipped away the advantage when they tied the score at 29-29 with 3:00 left.
Rhoads made lay-up at the 1:32 mark for the 31-29 lead before the Ursuline's Laney Lewis made a lay-up at the buzzer for the 31-31 tie at the half.
KWC opened the second half with a 14-2 run for their biggest lead of the night at 45-32 at 17:24 on the clock. Over the next 10:24 minutes the Panthers held the advantage between five and 11 points.
The Arrows then went on a 13-2 run to tie the contest at 63-all with 4:44 remaining. KWC twice extended the lead to four at the 1:37 and 51 second mark.
UC's Erica Huber connected on a three-pointer at 42 seconds to cut it to 73-72. Gambill was fouled and made two free throws to make it 75-72 with 31 ticks left. Brianna Woods tied the game 75-75 with a three-pointer with nine seconds on the clock.
Woods then accidentally foul Rhoads as she hit the game-winning free throws for KWC's 17th win.
T'Essence Phelps grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds. Rhoads pulled down six while
Jennifer Walker-Crawford,
Erin Dorn,
Jade Mills-Harris and Tyra tallied five each. The Panthers outrebounded the Arrows 40 to 28.
KWC shot 43.8 percent from the field and 93.8 percent (15-16) from the free throw line.
The victory vaulted the Panthers to a third-place finish with a 12-4 G-MAC record going into next week's league tournament.
KWC (17-8) closes the regular season by hosting non-conference foe Oakland City at 1 p.m.
