A non-conference win to end the regular season helped boost the confidence of Kentucky Wesleyan men's soccer headed into this weekend.
KWC begins its quest for a Great Midwest Athletic Conference championship tomorrow evening in Philippi, West Va. against Alderson Broaddus with kick-off set for 6 p.m.
"The loss to Cedarville was a tough one," said head coach
John Fusco. "We made a few small mistakes. Hopefully we will see them again."
The Panthers finished the regular season 7-7-3 and clinched their first playoff berth of any sort since 1994, when they were defeated in the GLVC tournament by St. Joe's 2-0. KWC and AB met in the regular season on Panther Field, and the Panthers made a 1-0 lead early stand up to take the win.
Christakis Agisilaou has 14 goals this season to lead the team and enters the G-MAC tournament three goals shy of the career record.Â
Kurtis Roberts has 11 assists this season and
Grant Allen has played the majority of the minutes in goal, making 86 saves and posting three shutouts.
Alderson-Broaddus enters the tournament 7-9-1 on the year. DeShawn Parker leads the Battlers in goals with eight and Ricard Lao has played the majority of the minutes in goal, making 80 saves.
When asked about preparation for the match, coach Fusco replied: "This will be another tough game. We have been working really hard to get on the good end of those results. We are definitely looking forward to it."
If KWC wins, they would move onto the semifinals on Nov. 6 in Cedarville, Ohio.
