The Kentucky Wesleyan women's basketball team knocked off G-MAC foe Central State 80-60 in Wilberforce, Ohio on Saturday afternoon to improve to 4-0 in league play, while moving to 9-4 overall.

The two teams exchanged baskets to start the game before KWC used a 6-0 run to jump out to an 8-3 lead with 15:46 to go in the half.

KWC expanded its lead to 16 points following a 15-0 run that put the Panthers ahead 27-11 with just over eight minutes to go in the opening half. Central State ended the KWC run by converting on a layup on the Marauder's ensuing possession.

Senior T'Essence Phelps connected on a layup to put the Panthers ahead 34-13 with 6:06 remaining before intermission.

Senior Karly Rhoads gave KWC its largest lead of the first half at the 5:14 mark on a layup to put the score at 38-13.

Central State pulled within 18 points after hitting a jumper to make it a 41-23 game heading into halftime.

KWC connected on 53 percent of its shots from the field in the opening 20 minutes of action, while hitting just 39 percent of its free throw attempts. The Marauder hit 29 percent of its shots from the floor and went 3-6 from the stripe.

Central State hit two jumpers in the opening minute of the second half of action to make it a 41-27 game. Senior Kourtney Rhoads ended Central States run by knocking down a jumper of her own with 18:58 to go in the game.

The Marauder were only able to pull within 15 points during the remainder of the half as Jasmine Cooper made a layup with 6:33 to go in the game to put the score at 64-49.

KWC matched its largest lead of 25 points at the 12:16 mark in the second half on a layup by freshman Asia Coates.

The Panthers finished the game shooting 54 percent from the floor, 43 percent from the stripe and 31 percent from beyond the arch. Central State connected on 38 percent of its attempts from the floor, 47 percent of its free throw attempts, while making 22 percent from three point territory.

Phelps posted her fifth double-double of the season with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Karly Rhoads also recorded 16 points in the win for the Panthers, along with five assists. Senior Shelbi Tyra also collected five assists on the afternoon.

KWC returns to action on Thursday, Dec. 9 at home against G-MAC opponent Davis & Elkins at 5:30 p.m.
