Taking part in the final day of the Bearcat Brawl at Brescia the Kentucky Wesleyan volleyball team came from behind to beat University of the Cumberlands 3-1before winning comfortably over Brescia 3-0. The Panthers are 10-2 on the season following the two wins Saturday afternoon.
Univ. of the Cumberlands and KWC battled it out in the first set, but the Patriots pulled off the 25-23 win.
The Panthers were able to hold off Univ. of the Cumberlands in the second set, winning 25-20.
KWC had a strong showing in the third set earning the 25-16 victory.
The Panthers closed out the match in the fourth set after beating the Patriots 25-18.
Against Brescia, KWC used a 10-1 run early in the opening set to pull away from the Bearcats before taking the game 25-15.
During the second set the Panthers jumped out to a 5-0 lead and eventually went ahead 12-2. KWC closed out the set scoring the final three points to win 25-12.
In the third set Brescia kept the score close early on, but the Panthers were able to use a couple of late runs on their way to a 25-9 victory.
Junior
Rae Garvison posted a team high seven kills in the win over Brescia, while classmate
Bridget Johnson had three service aces. Junior
Erica Gallois had five solo blocks and three block assists against the Bearcats.
The Panthers recorded a .320 attacking percentage against Brescia.
KWC travels to Mason, Ohio next weekend to participate in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Cross Divisional Event. The Panthers play Alderson-Broaddus in their opening match of the event on Friday, Oct. 4 at 6:30 p.m.
