The Kentucky Wesleyan women's basketball team won its second straight G-MAC game, beating Salem International 86-45 at home on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers are 6-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play following the victory.

KWC scored the first eight points of the game before the Fighting Tigers got on the board with two free throws at the 17:11 mark.

Senior Shelbi Tyra gave the Panthers their first double digit lead of the game at the 11:57 mark following a made jumper to put the score at 19-8.

The Panthers built a 21 point advantage with 4:57 remaining in the first 20 minutes of play on a layup by senior T'Essence Phelps.

Junior Jordan Gambill gave KWC its largest lead of the first half and its final points on a layup and a free throw attempt, as the Panthers went into the break with a 43-19 lead.

KWC shot 50 percent from the floor and 86 percent from the free throw line in the opening 20 minutes of the game.

The Panthers held the Fighting Tigers to 21 percent shooting from the floor in the first half, while Salem International converted on all four of its free throw attempts.

The Fighting Tigers scored the opening basket of the second half, but the Panthers scored the next five points to take a 48-21 lead with 18:55 on the clock.

KWC extended its lead to 31 points after Phelps made a layup at the 16:43 mark.

The Fighting Tigers cut the Panthers lead to 27 points on a made jumper with 13:39 remaining in the game to put the score at 55-28.

Salem International was unable to get any closer, as KWC built a 40 point lead with 5:37 to go in the game on a made jumper by freshman Asia Coates.

Freshman Erin Dorn scored the final two points of the game on free throws to give KWC the 41 point win, as KWC took the game 86-45.

The Panthers finished the game shooting 54 percent from the floor, 87 percent from the stripe and 33 percent from beyond the arch.

Salem International made 30 percent of its shots from the floor, 92 percent of its free throw attempts and went 2-12 from three-point range.

Tyra led the Panthers in score with 14 points. Phelps led the squad with eight rebounds. Senior Karly Rhoads ended the game with five assists and Dorn had three steals on the afternoon.

KWC returns to non-conference play against Carson Newman on Wednesday, Dec. 18 at 4 p.m. in Jefferson City, Tenn.
