William Jewell spoiled Senior Day for the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers football team on Saturday, posting a 37-17 victory over the winless Panthers at Steele Stadium.

KWC, 0-10 overall and 0-6 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, closes out the season at McKendree next Saturday night.

"I'm really disappointed in our performance as coaches, as players, everything," Panthers head coach Brent Holsclaw said. "We've got to pick it up in every phase of our football program.

"We've got one more chance to get a win at McKendree, and we'll go back to work this weekend and prepare to become a better football team all the way around."

William Jewell (3-7, 2-4) struck first when Glen Whitney scored from a yard out midway through the first period.

The Cardinals increased their lead to 21-0 by halftime, getting second-quarter touchdown passes from Sean Shelton to James Harvey (17 yards) and Travae Jones (54 yards).

KWC opened fast in the second half, getting a 6-yard scoring pass from Will Barnes to Xavier Mitchell, but William Jewell answered with a 3-yard TD run by Shelton. A 33-yard field goal by Nathan Ballinger pulled the Panthers within 28-10 entering the fourth quarter.

William Jewell registered a safety early in the fourth, then built its lead to 37-10 on a 13-yard run by Darrick Strzele at 4:43.

Wesleyan got a 30-yard TD pass from Barnes to Jeff Ward at 3:17 to wrap up the scoring.

William Jewell dominated Wesleyan on the ground, out-gaining the Panthers 235-2.

For KWC, Barnes finished 22-of-38 for 164 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.
