KWC facing Quincy in search of first victory

Game Notes

Kentucky Wesleyan is still in search of its first win of the season and coach Brent Holsclaw thinks that could come Saturday.

The Panthers (0-6, 0-2 Great Lakes Valley Conference) will host Quincy (1-5, 0-2) at 1 p.m. Saturday at Steele Stadium.

"Quincy's good. They're solid, is what they are," Hoslclaw said. "I think we match up well. They've got a good running back. They run the ball well and they do a good job with play action.

"Their defense is very stubborn. They don't pressure you a ton, but they play good gap control defense."

Running back Jared King has rushed for 259 yards this season and four touchdowns. As a team, the Hawks average 340 yards per game while KWC averages 262.

Which defense can make stops could be key. The Panthers are allowing nearly 500 yards of offense a game while Quincy allows 462.

The Panthers will have to deal with several injuries, including running back Devin Le'Gall and starting safety Cuda Dimmett. But Holsclaw believes his team is headed in the right direction and could turn the corner Saturday.

"We're continuing to see improvement," Holsclaw said. "At 0-6, I was really pleased with how we came out in the (Missouri) S&T game and how we competed, the energy. Bottom line, it's a good group of guys we're coaching. They're not going to quit on us."
