Panthers come up short against Campbellsville on Senior Night

Seniors Kaitie Whitney, Katie Armstrong and Chelsee Breakfield played in their final regular season home game for Kentucky Wesleyan Thursday night against their final non-conference opponent Campbellsville. The Tigers won 2-1 over the Panthers on Senior Night. KWC is 9-5 overall on the season following the loss.

Campbellsville found the back of the net in the 24th minute off of a corner kick to take a 1-0 lead.

The Tigers had the slight 8-5 advantage in shots during the first half of play, while the Panthers had the 2-1 edge in corner kicks.

The three KWC seniors were recognized at halftime for their contributions to the program. Whitney, Armstrong and Breakfield have guided the Panthers to their best season in program history.

During the second half Campbellsville extended its lead in the 77th minute, but less than five minutes later KWC cut the lead in half on a goal from freshman Penni Pluimer. Sophomore Lauren Norton and junior Paige Kramer were credited with assists on the Pluimer goal.

The Tigers outshot the Panthers 19-16, while the corner kicks were even at four apiece.

KWC returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 19 against G-MAC opponent Trevecca Nazarene at 4 p.m. in Nashville, Tenn.
