KWC loses early lead, falls to Miners

Kentucky Wesleyan couldn't stop the run or get a running game of its going in a 41-21 homecoming loss to Missouri S&T at Steele Stadium Saturday.

Led by Chris Kennard's 120 yards and two touchdowns, the Miners (2-4, 1-1 Great Midwest Athletic Conference) ran for 271 yards while KWC (0-6, 0-2) finished with -14 yards on the ground.

The Miners finished a total of 551 yards on offense and quarterback Reed Brown threw for 280 yards and a touchdown.

KWC quarterback Will Barnes scored on a one-yard run with 5:24 left in the first quarter, which gave the Panthers a 14-7 lead.

Adam Peden then kicked a 37-yard field goal to pull the Miners to within four, 14-10. The Miners scored twice in the second quarter and eventually made it 21 unanswered before Barnes found Xavier Mitchell for a 42-yard touchdown pass to pull within 10, 31-21, with 12:33 left in the third quarter.

Missouri S&T scored a touchdown and a field goal later in the quarter to seal it.

Barnes was 21-of-40 passing for 255 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Mitchell caught five passes for 98 yards and a touchdown.
