Box Score
Coach
Brent Holsclaw wasn't happy with his team's effort down the stretch on Saturday.
Despite trailing just 21-10 at halftime, Kentucky Wesleyan (1-4, 0-4) fell, 41-17, at home to McKendree (1-4, 1-2).
"Our guys, up until tonight's game, have never gave up," Hoslclaw said. "Tonight, we just gave up...We've got to figure out how to fix it."
The momentum turned largely in McKendree's favor on a costly play in the third quarter.
KWC starting quarterback
Will Barnes, who entered Saturday's game already hampered with an injury, was hit hard by McKendree's Cameron Ford and fumbled the ball at the KWC 20-yard line. Ford scooped the ball up and went in for the score.
Not only did that make it a 27-10 score, but Barnes was also injured again on the play, this time a head injury.
He sat the rest of the way and freshman
Dalton Oliver played the rest of the way.
KWC was only to score once the rest of the way.
McKendree put up 352 total yards to KWC's 220.
The major difference was in the running game, where the Panthers were only able to get 11 total yards on 20 carries.
Barnes left with minus-29 rushing yards and Oliver finished with minus-35 yards. McKendree rushed for 255 total yards.
Barnes did, however, throw for 104 yards and a touchdown before he left. Oliver threw for 91 yards and a touchdown.
KWC's next game is against Urbana at 1 p.m. Saturday.
