Softball splits final games of season as five seniors end careers

Kentucky Wesleyan ended the 2012 season with a spilt with Wisconsin-Parkside in Great Lakes Valley Conference play on Sunday afternoon at Foster Field.
 
The Panthers won the opener 2-0 with only three hits. Kayla Meny brought in Traci Sanders on a RBI  sacrifice fly in the second. Josalyn Ress hit a solo home run for KWC's final run.
 
Jordan Vertz earned the win by pitching six innings, allowing five hits and striking out two. Ashlee Winstead received the save closing the final inning with two strikeouts.
 
In the final game, Meagan Sallee hit a RBI double to score Kyli Smithson for the 1-0 lead. The Rangers came back with one run in the third and fourth plus three in the sixth for the 5-1 victory.
 
Meny took loss allowing three runs in 5.1 innings pitched while striking out five. Winstead closed the final 1.2 innings with no strikeouts, two runs and three hits.
 
Following the second contest, the five seniors – Angie Camp, Katy Kruse, Kayla Meny, Traci Sanders and Jordan Vertz – who were playing in their final game at KWC were honored in a season-ending ceremony.
 
The Panthers closed the season with a 17-31 overall record and a 12-24 GLVC record.
