Baseball wins two at Illinois-Springfield

Kentucky Wesleyan produced 20 hits in their doubleheader win at Illinois-Springfield on Sunday afternoon.

Jon Wandling produced three RBIs with two hits and one run scored in the 6-2 opening win and Randy Villa recorded a team-high three hits.

Wandling produced a one-run single in the third inning for a 1-0 start. Luis Mila hit a two-run single in the fourth for a 3-0 lead.

The Prairie Stars scored one in the fifth and one in the sixth to cut the lead to 3-2.

KWC scored three runs in the seventh on Wandling's two-run single and Hagedorn's RBI double for the final margin.

Max Aubrey, Mark Hagedorn and Josh White each recorded a double.

Drew Watts earned his third win of the season with four strikeouts in seven innings. Chaz Simpson closed for the Panthers with two strikeouts in two innings.

In the second contest, the Panthers jumped out to a 3-0 lead and never looked back in their 4-1 win.

Nathan Hedepath recorded a sacrifice fly to score the Panthers first run and Josh Vance hit a two-run single in the fourth for a 3-0 margin in the fourth inning.

The Prairie Stars scored in the fourth for their only run.

Jordan Harbison also hit a sacrifice fly to score the Panthers final run.

Jordan White collected two hits and Vance produced two RBIs. Dan Cannon had a double and four different Panthers scored.

Tim Steed picked up his fourth win with five strikeouts in a complete game.

The Panthers (9-9, 5-2 GLVC) travel to Louisville for a four-game series at Bellarmine next Saturday and Sunday.
