Box Score

Kentucky Wesleyan College was able to get a lead twice on the road against Saint Joseph's, but the final result was the same for the Panthers.

St. Joe's subdued the Panthers 31-21 on Saturday at Rensselaer, Ind. It was the second win of the season for St. Joe's in eight games. The Panthers fell to 0-8.

They secured a 14-13 lead on a 26-yard touchdown pass from Chris Owen to Shawn Mooney with 9:30 to go in the third quarter. St. Joe's went back on top on a safety after a KWC punt snap went out of the end zone with 4:42 left.

That was unfortunate for the Panthers, because they recovered a  fumble at their own 5-yard line to stop aSt. Joe's scoring drive.

St. Joe's built on that momentum with on its next possession, going 40 yards and scoring a touchdown on a 3-yard pass from Tate Borlik to Tyler Callaghan to take a 22-14 lead with 1:40 left in the third period.

St. Joe's got a 22-yard field goal from Mark Olenek, and scored another touchdown on an 8-yard run by Darryl Jordan within the first four minutes of the fourth quarter to go up 31-14.

The Panthers finished with a positive offensive note when backup quarterback Will Barnes and Jake Pepper completed a 95-yard pass-run play with 4:18 left for the final margin.

The Panthers started the day well, too, going ahead 7-0 nearly five minutes into the game after they forced a fumble on the Pumas' opening series. Three plays later Owen found Mooney for a 9-yard touchdown reception.

They could not stop Borlik, as the St. Joe's quarterback hit 30-of-55 passes for 320 yards and three touchdowns. Scott Chapman made eight catches for 121 yards for the Pumas.

Owen was picked off three times and St. Joe's also forced a KWC fumble. Mooney had seven catches for 100 yards for KWC.
