Box Score

Sirchauncey Holloway scored four rushing touchdowns to lift homestanding Liberty to an easy 57-0 victory over outmanned Kentucky Wesleyan in a college football game on Saturday in Lynchburg, Va.

The Flames, a Division I member of the Football Championship Series (formerly I-AA), improved to 2-3, while NCAA Division II KWC fell to 0-5.

“It's a tough environment for our kids to walk into,” said veteran Panthers head coach Brent Holsclaw. “They had a big crowd (15,782), it was noisy, and we're just not used to playing in this type of atmosphere.

“Despite the score, our guys were resilient and played with a lot of heart. I'm proud of our football team. We'll come back next week with confidence. We still have a lot to look forward to.”

Holloway, who finished with 126 yards on 17 carries, scored on runs of 2, 1, 2 and 32 yards.

Liberty scored just one touchdown in the first period, but came to life with 24 second-quarter points to a secure a comfortable 31-0 advantage by intermission.

The Flames finished with 486 yards of total offense, to just 74 for the Panthers.

“We're out of our league here,” Holsclaw said. “Liberty is an excellent football team, and we'll learn from this experience.”

KWC was ineffective through the air (66 yards) and on the ground (8 yards).

The Panthers — falling to 0-27 against FCS foes since 1983 — will continue to seek their first victory of the season next Saturday when they play host to Urbana.
