Head women's basketball coach
Nicole Nieman announced three high school products have signed national letters-of-intent to continue their education and basketball careers with the Panthers.
Joining the program are
Kenley Perry from Bedford, Ind., and twins Karly and
Kourtney Rhoads from Slippery Rock, Pa.
Perry, a 5-foot-10 third-team Hoosier Basketball Magazine all-state guard from Bedford-North Lawrence HS, led the Stars in scoring (16.7 ppg), rebounds (4.2 rpg), three-pointers (30), three-point shooting (41.1%) and steals (62) in starting all 21 games. She was second in assists (2.5), field goal (50.7%) and free throw shooting (74.6%), and blocks (8).
“Kenley's anticipation skills, length and quickness fit well with our defensive scheme,” Nieman said. “Offensively, she has a quick, fundamental outside shot and has the ability to use both hands effectively. Combining these traits, we feel Kenley will be a solid contributor in the upcoming years.”
The first-team All-Hoosier Hills Conference honoree and team captain scored a season high 26 points in 2010. Perry was named as one of the Top 60 Seniors by Hoosier Basketball and played in the East-West All-Star game. As a junior, she also led BNL in rebounding (5.8), blocks (10) and second in scoring (12.8).
The Rhoads twins, both 5-foot-11 guards from Slippery Rock Area HS, were all-state selections in 2010 for head coach Adrienne Orris. Karly collected first team honors and Kourtney second team accolades. Both four-year starters helped the Rockets to the district and regional titles, and to the state Sweet 16 tournament.
Karly, the region's Player of the Year, led the Rockets in scoring (17.4), assists (5.8) and steals (4.2), and amassed 1,547 career points plus over 400 career assists. She also was named to the all-district team as a senior.
Nieman commented, “Karly is a natural floor-leader. She has great instincts on the offensive side of the floor. Her length at the guard position will give us flexibility defensively and a distinct advantage offensively. Karly's ability to get to the lane will also enable us to be more productive in our team offense.”
Kourtney, a first-team all-region and all-district selection, finished first in the county in three-pointers (65) and ended with a team second-best points (14.5), assists (4.2) and steals (3.1). She also compiled 1,174 career points and 218 three pointers.
“Kourtney has the ability to defend anyone on the floor,” Nieman added. “In addition, she has a quick and efficient three-point shot. Her overall versatility fits within what we want to do on both sides of the floor. With Kourtney's quickness, at 5-10, she will be a handful for the opposition.”
The twins combined for over 500 steals and both earned All-County Honor Roll and SRAHS High Honor Roll. Their older sister, Jence, will be a senior on Vanderbilt University basketball squad.
