Catholic soccer star Young signs with KWC

Monica Young, a four-year soccer standout at Owensboro Catholic High School, signed with Kentucky Wesleyan College on Thursday.

The 5-foot Young finished with seven goals and 11 assists in her senior season, earning a spot on the All-6th District team.

"I'm really excited about the opportunity to continue my soccer career at KWC," Young said. "I've always wanted to play soccer in college, and I'm going to have that opportunity.

Young played midfield for the Lady Aces, but could also see action at forward for the Panthers.

"Speed is my best asset, along with having good vision of the field," Young said.

Her high school coach, Durand Engineer, said Young will be a nice fit at Wesleyan.

"Monica has a lot of grit and determination," he said. "She won't let other players push her around."

Young plans to major in nursing at KWC.
