Kentucky Wesleyan College went into the first football game of the season wanting to make Indianapolis beat it through the air.

The Greyhounds were up to the task Thursday night in Indianapolis.

Indy quarterback Rob Doyle found open receivers much of the night on the way to a 31-3 win over the Panthers. They were determined to stop the run, which Indy usually excels at, and when they committed there, Doyle simply went to the air.

The sophomore hit 24-of-33 passes for 260 yards and two scores.

Indianapolis imposed its offensive will on KWC in the second quarter with 17 unanswered points.

Doyle uncorked a 50-yard scoring strike to running back Joumeel McLaurine with 8:58 left before halftime. Doyle then connected with Mar'Quone Edmonds from five yards out with 3:40 left in the half.

Jace Morrison got Indy on the board with a 45-yard field goal five seconds into the second quarter.

Indy tacked on two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

McLaurine scored on a 1-yard plunge with 10:10 to go.

The Greyhounds' final score of the night came after Collin Coffer blocked a 30-yard field goal try by Richard Fangman and returned it 79 yards for a touchdown with 3:49 left in the game.

Fangman accounted for KWC's only points on a 41-yard field goal with 8:56 to play in the third period.

The Panthers were at least able to slow Indianapolis as the third quarter wound toward the five-minute mark.

Patrick Bourne was stopped for no gain by Jason Fairley after Indy had driven to the KWC 9 and had fourth-and-1.

But that was one of the few bright spots for KWC.

The Panthers had trouble generating yardage or getting into scoring position. The Panthers were outgained 353-171 in total yardage.

KWC's Thomas Gordon went for 102 yards on 19 carries.

KWC travels to Murray State next Thursday.
