Missouri S&T's big plays doom KWC

Missouri S&T stunned Kentucky Wesleyan by scoring 10 points in the final two seconds of the first half on the way to a 34-14 college football victory over the Panthers on Saturday in the season-ender for both teams at Steele Stadium.

KWC (2-9, 2-2 Great Lakes Football Conference) pulled into a 14-all tie with the Miners when DaMarcus Ganaway caught a 24-yard touchdown pass from Vincent Lalonde with 3:46 to play in the first half.

Then the roof caved in on the Panthers.

Missouri S&T (4-7, 3-1) went ahead 21-14 at 2:13 when Clay Kinman caught a 47-yard TD pass from Jason Schlueter.

The Miners extended their lead to 24-14 on a 29-yard field goal by Joe Drahos with just two seconds remaining, before Mark Hopkins intercepted a Lalonde pass and raced 96 yards for a stunning TD as time expired.

"Basically, the game was decided in a five-minute stretch at the end of the first half," KWC coach Brent Holsclaw said. "We had too many mental errors, and we just didn't execute offensively in the second half."

Trailing 14-0 after the first period, Wesleyan finally got on the board at 14:31 of the second quarter when Travis Walker threw a 38-yard touchdown pass to Derek Brown.

The Miners rolled up 440 yards of total offense and limited KWC to 217.
