15 PANTHERS HONORED BY MID-SOUTH CONFERENCE

Eleven Kentucky Wesleyan College Panthers were named to the All-Mid-South Conference West Division football team as voted on by league coaches and four earned MSC All-Academic honors.

Selected to the offensive first team were running back Letiz Arnold, guard Matt Grey, center Todd Hollis; wide receiver Josh Smith, and to the defensive first team were kick returner Tycen Brock, linebacker Keith Cottoner, and for the second straight season defensive end Alex Temple.

Arnold, a 5-foot-8, 205-pound sophomore from LaCenter (Ballard Memorial HS) set two season rushing records in his first season at KWC with 839 yards and 149 carries. He scored three touchdowns and caught 19 passes for 139 yards and one touchdown.

Grey, a 6-foot-6, 342-pound junior from Manassas Park, Va. (Manassa Park HS) started all 10 games at guard. Hollis, a 6-foot-2, 263-pound junior from Louisville (Pleasure Ridge Park HS) started all 10 games at center. He also earned MSC All-Academic recognition.

Smith, a 6-foot-2, 211-pound freshman from O'Fallin, Ill. (Marist HS), caught 38 passes for 550 yards and a team best seven touchdowns in leading the Panthers in scoring with 42 points.

Brock, a 5-foot-9, 173-pound senior from Odon, Ind. (North Daviess HS), returned 14 kickoffs for an 24.0 yards per game average. He also received honorable mention honors at corner back where he had 33.5 tackles, three interceptions and 10 pass breakups.

Cottoner, a 5-foot-5, 171-pound senior from Madisonville (Hopkins County Central HS), collected 49 tackles, three sacks and led the Panthers with 13.5 tackles for loss.

Temple, a 6-foot-2, 232-pound sophomore from Crestwood (Louisville Trinity), led KWC with eight sacks along with 31 tackles and 11.5 tackles for loss.

Receiving honorable mention recognition were slotback and punter Jason Simpson, quarterback Ward Tanner, strong safety Noah Harris and defensive tackle Kenneth Lewis.

Simpson, a 6-foot-2, 196-pound senior from Snead, Ala. (Susan Moore HS), led the Panthers with 56 receptions for 511 yards and four touchdowns. He also average 38.2 yards per punt.

Tanner, a 6-foot-1, 226-pound redshirt freshman from Naples, Fla. (Lely HS), completed 194 of a season record 448 passes for 2,261 yards and 19 touchdowns.

Harris, a 6-foot, 182-pound junior from Indianapolis, Ind. (North Central HS), led KWC in interceptions with four and blocked kicks with four and also had 57 tackles.

Lewis, 6-foot, 294-pound sophomore from Louisville (Manual HS), had 27 tackles, 2.5 sacks and finished second in tackles for loss with 11.5.

Panthers named to the all-academic team were sophomore defensive lineman Kyle Aebersold from Louisville (Holy Cross HS); sophomore defensive end Clay Durham from Owensboro (Owensboro HS) and senior offensive tackles Cliff Jackson from Owensboro (Apollo HS). They were recognized for their classroom achievement with a 3.2 grade point average or higher.

Kentucky Wesleyan, under third-year head coach Brent Holsclaw, completed the 2005 season with a 3-7 record and finished tied for fourth in the Mid-South Conference West Division with a 2-3 record.
