Roy Pickerill is in his eighth year at KWC as Sports Information Director Emeritus and Special Assistant for College Relations in 2024-25. He retired as the Panther’s Sports Information Director after 29 ½ years, as the longest tenured SID in KWC history on Dec. 22, 2016.
 
He has been with the College for 54 consecutive years including four as a student and 12 seasons as an Assistant SID before his promotion in July 1988. He also served as Director of Public Relations for two years from 2004 to 2006.
 
Pickerill has been enshrined into five Hall of Fames in his long career.
 
In September 2024, he was inducted into the Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame as chosen by the Kentucky sports broadcasters and sports writers. Pickerill is the sixth member from Kentucky Wesleyan to go into the Hall of Fame.
 
The College Sports Communicators (CSC) inducted him into their Hall of Fame in June 1999. Pickerill also received the prestigious CSC Warren Berg Award, presented to a college division member (D2, D3, NAIA) in June 1998. 
  
 CSC presented him with the Distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award in June 2017. His publications have won 30 CSC awards. He served on the CSC Board of Directors from 1998 to 2000.
 
 The Division II Sports Information Directors of America honored Pickerill as inaugural recipient of the D2SIDA Roy Pickerill Distinguished Service Award in June 2022. He became the first President of D2SIDA consisting of 281 members for three years from 2006 to 2009.
 
 The Small College Basketball (SCB) Hall of Fame presented him the Distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award in June 2021. Pickerill also serves on the SCB Foundation Board of Directors.
The Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) enshrined him into their Hall of Fame in May 2008 and presented him the GLVC’s Thomas Kearns Distinguished Service Award in 2014. He served as the league’s SID from 1980 to 1983.
  
 Pickerill completed his 29th season on the NCAA Division II Elite Eight Men's Basketball Championship Media Coordination staff in March 2024. The NCAA recognized him for his 25 years of service to the Championship in March 2018.
 
 The NCAA announced Pickerill as a finalist for the NCAA Division II’s 50th Anniversary Celebration Gold Award in January 2024. He also has been a panelist and presenter at many CSC and NCAA conventions.
 
He has worked on the media operations staff for various sporting events, including the College Baseball World Series, Kentucky Derby, NCAA Basketball Championships, PGA and Senior PGA Championships, and Kentucky State Baseball Championships.
 
KWC inducted him into the Alumni Hall of Fame in 2012 and the Athletics Hall of Fame in 2015. He received KWC’s Outstanding Staff Member Award in 2004 and the All-American Club Athletic Excellence Award in 1996.
  
The Kentucky Wesleyan Alumni Association voted to rename the Alumni Service Award in his honor in February 2021. He received the first Alumni Service Award in 1994 and the Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award in 2007.

The Louisville native graduated from Kentucky Wesleyan in 1975 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
