Trojans Defeat Panthers, Win the Series

NASHVILLE, TENN. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College baseball team concluded its renewed rivalry Trevecca Nazarene on Saturday. The Trojans were previously counterparts to the Panthers when they were members of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. On Saturday the Trojans escaped a double header with Wesleyan winning the day's opener 9-6. The Panthers lost the finale 19-0.

The Trojans (3-3) scored three in the first and one in the second to take a 4-0 lead. The lead grew to 6-0 after six innings. The Panthers (1-2) applied pressure in the top of the seventh inning, scoring five times and forced the Trojans into three pitching changes. The inning started with back-to-back walks and after a field error the bases were loaded with no outs.

Rhett Dysholm got the Panthers on the board with a two-run single into to left. Another run crossed the plate with a wild pitch, pulling Wesleyan to 6-3. Later in the frame two ground-outs scored two more runs to make it a one run ball game.

Unfortunately for the Panthers, the Trojans scored three times in the bottom of the eighth to build some insurance. In the top of the ninth, Tucker Hagan got on base with a one-out single which was followed by another single by Colson Perry. Elijah Stockton got the tying run to the plate as his single to center scored Hagan.

The game ended with a strikeout and groundout. Dysholm finished the game two for four with two RBIs. Michael Chaney was also two for four with a double. Not to be forgotten, Noah Cook bridged the game into the late innings when he came in during the fourth inning. Cook pitched four innings allowing three runs on five hits.

The Trojans one hit the Panthers in the finale en route to a 19-0 victory. Wesleyan is scheduled to open Panther Park on Friday with a four-game series against Davis and Elkins. First pitch is scheduled for 12PM.
