OWENSBORO, Ky. – Kentucky Wesleyan volleyball (3-12, 0-7 G-MAC) lost to Thomas More (6-8, 2-4 G-MAC) in straight sets on Friday evening.
Arielis Hernandez led Kentucky Wesleyan with 10 kills, while
Emmy Goering added six and
Kami Parlin and
Hadley Wolfe each finished with four.
Ana De Sevilla-Acosta recorded 15 assists, and
Sophie Spanier and Parlin each posted five digs.
Kentucky Wesleyan 0-3 Thomas More (20-25, 18-25, 19-25)
SET ONE: Kentucky Wesleyan 20-25 Thomas More
Thomas More took an early 3-0 lead, but Kentucky Wesleyan battled back throughout the opening set. The Panthers pulled even at 12-12 following an ace from Parlin before the Saints regained the lead. Kentucky Wesleyan stayed within striking distance at 20-17, but Thomas More closed the set with five of the final eight points to take the opener, 25-20.
SET TWO: Kentucky Wesleyan 18-25 Thomas More
Kentucky Wesleyan came out strong in the second set, opening with five straight points behind kills from Hernandez, Parlin and Wolfe. Thomas More answered with a 7-0 run to take the lead and later built a 17-10 advantage. The Panthers fought back with three consecutive points, including two aces from De Sevilla-Acosta, cutting the deficit to 17-14. Thomas More responded, however, and held on for a 25-18 win.
SET THREE: Kentucky Wesleyan 19-25 Thomas More
The Panthers again started quickly in the third set, building a 7-2 lead after kills from Hernandez and Wolfe and an ace from Goering. Thomas More rallied to tie the set at 11-11 and took a 12-11 lead before Kentucky Wesleyan evened the score at 12-12. Thomas More then opened a 16-12 advantage, but the Panthers cut the deficit to 16-14. The Saints pulled away again at 21-15, and Kentucky Wesleyan could not complete the comeback as the visitors closed the match, 25-19.
