OWENSBORO, Ky. – Four Panthers scored 15+ points to lead the Kentucky Wesleyan men's basketball team (12-8, 6-6 G-MAC) to an 81-71 triumph over Cedarville Saturday afternoon inside Jones Gym.
Wesleyan now leads the all-time series 16-9 between the two programs. The Panthers have won five of the last six matchups.
KWC jumped out to a quick 12-6 advantage, highlighted by back-to-back threes from Armandas Plintauskas. The Panthers were able to build on that and led by as much as 14 in the first half.
Wesleyan took a 33-21 lead into halftime after Caleb Mackrey and Ke'Andre Jones hit three-pointers in the waning minutes.
The Panthers never trailed in the second half. Cedarville did come within two at 42-40 with just under 13 minutes to play, but Wesleyan reeled off a 26-9 run to take a commanding 69-49 advantage with five minutes left. That run was headlined by seven consecutive points from LaVonte Harris, including a fastbreak slam, and a windmill dunk by Jones capped off the 81-71 win in front of the Panther faithful.
Plintauskas logged a team-high 20 points on top of six three-pointers and two steals. Harris (15 points, six rebounds), Fatih Huyuk (15 points, eight rebounds), and Jones (15 points, six rebounds) joined him in the 15+ points club.
Jorge Sanchez-Ramos had a strong day as well with 11 assists while adding eight points and two steals.
KWC next heads back to the Owensboro Sportscenter for a matchup versus Findlay on Thursday, January 29th, at 7:45 PM. The game will be live on FloCollege and fans can listen on 94.7 WBIO.
