CEDARVILLE, OH. - Its was a good day to be a pitcher for the Kentucky Wesleyan College baseball team as they did not allow a run for 16 innings. The Panthers produced a double shutout on a Good Friday sweep of Cedarville University. Behind
Evan Oakley, Wesleyan won the opener 2-0. In the second match-up,
Isaac Rose helped the Panthers earn a 1-0 shutout.
In the opener it was another dominating performance for
Evan Oakley. The Panthers' ace completed 7.2 innings of shutout baseball, allowing five hits on the day with seven strikeouts. For the Yellowjackets, Coen Ball was equally impressive as he did not allow a run until the fifth inning. The top of the fifth started with back-to-back strikeouts before a walk by
Elijah Stockton and a
Logan Molnar single put two runners on with two outs.
Liam Hutson took care of the rest with another single that scored Stockton, giving the Panthers a 1-0 lead.
As Oakley continued to deal, the Panthers added some insurance in the top of the eighth inning, again with a two-out hit.
Rhett Dysholm led off the frame with a four pitch walk. A sacrifice bunt moved him over to second. After a strikeout,
Braden Vinyard stepped to the plate and on the first pitch ripped a RBI double down the left field line.
Ethan Ell pitched the final 1.1 innings to pick-up his second save of the season. Molnar was two for two with a walk while Hutson went two for four with a walk and RBI.
In the second game, hits were still hard to come by as
Isaac Rose took to the hill for the Panthers. Rose pitched six inning of shut-out baseball, allowing just two hits with six strikeouts.
The Panthers scored without the benefit of a RBI in the top fifth inning. Hutson led off the frame with a single while
Jase Mizell was hit by a pitch. With two runners on and no outs, Dysholm laid down a sacrifice bunt. As the play went to the third base in an attempt to get the lead runner, the ball got loose and Hutson scored the lone run of the game.
The Yellojackets had five base runners in the game as they were left stranded.
David Castleberry pitched the seventh to earn the save.
Colson Perry finished the game two for three. The Panthers will complete the four-game set on Saturday with two more games. First pitch at Yellowjacket Field is scheduled for 12PM CT.
